Cornelius, Oregon, is a beautiful farming town with a population of around 12,000, along with a rich history. The story of Cornelius begins right around 1845. It was then that a man named Benjamin Cornelius moved into the Tualatin Plains with his family, planning to build a life there out on the beautiful prairies of Oregon.
At that point, the area was called “Free Orchards.” It would be Benjamin’s son, Thomas, who would (literally) put the Cornelius name on the map. In 1871, Thomas heard of plans to extend a major railroad through the area. He decided to take advantage of this and by 1893 Free Orchards had become a genuine, successful town along the Oregon and California railroad.
Realizing how important Thomas’s role was in building up the city, it was incorporated in 1893 as “Cornelius” in his honor.
Today, residents of Cornelius are still hoping to build happy, successful lives just like Ben and his son. The city is known not only for its farms but its rolling hills, four wine-producing vineyards, and one of the oldest golf courses in the entire Pacific Northwest, Forest Hills. It was here in Cornelius that the KVN Construction team had the honor of completing one of our most recent projects.
